Finding Yourself in the Library of Life

“You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men.” II Cor 3:2

Since I am addressing for the most part people who enjoy reading I would imagine that each of you, just like me developed a love for books at a young age. I cannot remember a time when I did not carry around a book or two to read in the spare moments of my life.

Of course, as a young girl I had more spare moments then I do now…yet still my passion for reading causes me to usually carry something to read, should a golden moment arise.

Books have great value in our lives…we live, grow, and feed off them. They bear out the heart, mind, imagination, and even the dreams of the author. They challenge and inform and even change our ways of thinking and behaving…at least some of them do.

One of my favorite verses of Scripture is II Corinthians 3:2. It often comes to mind and I attempt to always hold it very close to my heart. When I pondered it for a time recently it brought some questions to my life and I want to briefly share them with you.

Imagine with me that you are in a huge library. You know the kind that has almost as much wood in it as books. There is a huge ladder that runs on a track around the entire room and it is literally wall-to-wall books. Can you smell the leather of the old books? How about the dust that quickly collects no matter how often the librarian dusts. The fresh ink has a unique smell all it’s own as well. Are you there with me?

Now, go to the huge card catalog and look up your name…for each of our lives is a book, an epistle, a writing that is made public and available for all to read…and we are read whether we realize it or not.

Did you find yourself yet? If so, where? This is the big question the Holy Ghost put in my spirit. What section have you been cataloged in? Were you found in fiction, non-fiction, historical (almost said hysterical), fantasy, comedy, mystery, or horror? Where do you fit in The Library Of Life? What is your title? What are you all about? How thick are you is there any depth? What message do you get a crossed?

A painful question perhaps, but still necessary. I want my life with Jesus to be so interesting that people cannot wait to know me. I want there to be a waiting list, and high demand for “this living epistle.” I want to be a bestseller for Jesus…what about you? Do you want to be a treasured best seller that people will keep forever and read over and over again? We can do that but only with God’s help.

Aim for truth, depth, character and being Christ-like. An “epistle” of that sort is sure to be read and cherished by many! When people look at you ask yourselves what they see…it is my prayer that they will see Jesus in you and me!

Prayer:

God help us to always be aware that our actions are the ink pen of life adding on to us Your living epistles. Father let us be worthy to be read. Let the uniqueness of being Your child ring thru us. And if we have been misplaced or even miscategorized I ask that You would arrange and rearrange us. In Jesus Name!

Amen! Amen!
